Hi. I have a 6, 1997, with 110k miles on the clock. I've owned it for 6 years and as far as I know its never had any suspension parts replaced.

It handles great, I think. I love the car! But I was wondering if, at that age and mileage, it would benefit from new shocks, springs, wishbones, bearings, bushes etc, and by how much would it benefit. A little? A fair bit? A lot?

The reason I am asking you very knowledgeable guys is that I've got about £600 going spare. I would LIKE to treat my 6 in the suspension dpt, but, over the past few weeks I have asked 3 garages, and they all said, if it passes the MOT ok (it did, 1 month ago), then there is no need to spend £100's on parts that don't need replacing.

BUT!! I have read so much on here (great site btw!) about the big improvements in handling after replacing said items. At the end of the day, I only want it to 'handle like new', re: all the great reviews we've all read in the car mags, no lowering, track day handling etc.

So, guys, if I've got the money to do it, and I AM keeping the car for a few more years, will I notice the difference, or should I buy a 50" tv instead!!??

in that case just get some bilstein B4 shocks from ecp.

new wishbone bushes and balljoints.
and new rear beam mounts.
will freshen it up nicely.

and of course some good quality tyres

I enjoyed B4's for the last 20,000 miles. They are better than 10 year old standard dampers but unbalance the other suspension components. I changed back from B4's and find OEM dampers to be better balanced with standard suspension components.

Check wishbones, drop links and ball joints for wear. Standard springs, torsion bars, dampers, top mounts, anti roll bars and wheel bearings will all help. The ride quality with an all new suspension is stunning.

New wishbone bushes, track rod ends, maybe dampers, braided brake lines and some uprated brake pads. Check your engine mounts and chock / replace.

A nice revival package : )

You will need new beam mounts, P bushes and balljoints soon - I found mine nearly all went around the 115k mark.
