white gunk normally means you've got water in there and your head gaskets gone. hope not for your sake but that's what the out come is most of the time.

It is moisture in the oil. Does it do mostly short journeys? One of my old 306s (8v XU) used to gunk up on short journeys but if you took it for a longer run it would clear.

Not definitely, no.

Take it for a long run and see if it clear at all.

Check the water/oil heat exchanger behind the oil filter and do a check of the water for combustion gasses before condemning the head gasket.

EDIT: I didn't see that it wasn't a 6. In that case probably the head gasket.

If it doesn't clear after a good run then you probably have coolant contaminating the oil. Probably head gasket failure in that case.

Don't think the 8v xsi has an oil heat exchanger so can't be that.

They rarely put water into the oil if the exchanger goes, more likely goes the other way.
