I've just fitted a replacement heater motor and it is now actually blowing out air which is a plus, but it only works on number 4 and switches off on 1 through 3.

Any ideas?

More than likely a dead heater resistor pack. Not sure how common on Peugeots but the later Rovers do this all the time.

As above, this part is part of the motor so you will have to get another one one now.
