Hey Guys, I need some help with my 2000 GTI-6

The engine light is on and running very rough

The AA came and checked it out and it is only running on 3 cylinders and one of the Coils has no spark.

I replaced the coil and it melted within 1 minute!!

Any suggestions to what is wrong?

cheers

Very odd, when you say it melted do you mean the electrical connection end or the part that goes over the plug itself?

Sounds you like you might have a electrical short to that coil pack? Might be worth unplugging them all and checking the voltage at each plug.

I have had a similar problem after I'd had the plastic cover off. I'd trapped a wire and shorted it!!

Jesus mate there not cheap, i sell them second hand here for £10, unsure on the exchange rate but its got to be loads cheaper.

As above check the wiring as it comes around the head on the metal bracket, seen a few break the wires around there.

I might have to take you up on those second hand ones Carl.

The Peugeot dealer rang today and said that I needed 4 new coils and that there was only 1 left in New Zealand.

Apparently $470 NZ each from France! what a rip off.

They are sending the ECU away to be checked too!

Im trying to source some coils locally at the moment.

Thanks mechanical_repairs for your offer. I ended up getting some brand new coils from peugeotpartsdirect.co.uk. Very good service and price!
