trying hard to understand what you are saying so correct me if i'm wrong but did you remove rocker covers and then start engine and noticed no oil under there? Have you checked oil level on dipstick?

Have you got no oil pressure ie is the oil pressure warning light on dash?

sorry if not very clear, the oil is on the maximum mark on the dipstick and no oil pressure warning light on, i started with rocker covers off and no oil seems to be coming out of lube rail above the cams

Hi there,

does anyone know if the tappets are affected when the cam belt snaps.I have had all 16 values replaced so far but the engine is tapping slightly.

the valves normaly damages the guides when they are bent and cause a tap when rebuilt. tappets very rarley go wrong are you sure you havent got a loose plug or it not just noisy injectors

could be the pump (although oil light should come on in that case) or an oil gallery blocked not allowing oil to circulate around head. Are the cam journals scored fom lack of oil, will prob be hard to see through the wee hole but easier than taking cams out.

clogged oil filter 'should' still bring the oil light on.

Could just be a loose spark plug which is quite a common cause of tapping believe it or not.

Thanks for that. When the cam belt went the garage told me that all 16 values had one which i had no problem with. However when I went to collect the car a tapping noice was evident. he then told me that the tappets had gone but that they,'would sort themselves' haha.after I told him that I did not think that the two were contected and that I would not take the car in that state he agreed to replace the tappets.(all 16?)I got the car back now and she is running fab again. I just thought I was being ripped off

cheers

sharon

Might have needed a bit more time for them to regain pressure, but generally tappets aren't an issue in these engines. Glad to hear its all sorted and do introduce yourself properly Smile
