do they fit together? im sure i read somewhere on here that they didnt? or maybe it was something else. can anyone else confirm they do go together?

Older Mi s are ally new ones are cast so depends what you want to know ?

Think the newer ones can mix with the gti heads but not the ally ones ?

they'll all fit, dr sarty's 2.2 uses a 1.9 head on a 2.0 block

The only issue to consider is which head bolts type to use.
the gti6 is bi-metal engine , the MI is all alloy
and comes from period where Citroen used the chemistry rout to overcome their inferiority in metallurgy ,by developing their special coolant.
to deal with the different expansion rate head-bottom in the 6 engine they used TTY (Torque-to-Yield ) head bolts which can stretch slightly when they are tightened down doing so helps even clamping forces across the head gasket to provide a better seal.
so dig into this article to find if you'll need the MI16 or the 6 head bolts.

mi16 is a steel bottom end as well as an alloy one
