I picked up my new 6 yesterday and am pretty happy with it , however when driving it tonight, I noticed that on a couple of occasions when going over a bump in the road (small bump, not pot holes) the car jumped out of 3rd and 4th gear.

The gear box seems fine and all gears are selectable without any crunching or whining. I did think that the linkage was a bit off when I test drove it because the selection between 3rd and 4th was very light and lacked feel.

Does this sound like a linkage fault? I hope it's not the 'box

Gearbox mount certainly first thing to try - I replaced mine myself; not too hard a job and theres a FAQ on it here

I had a similar thing with mine where it would drop out of first gear after you came off the accelerator; that was a fault with the actual first gear / shaft in the box and cost me silly money to get fixed

Lower engine mount at a guess as this controls the toque reaction of the engine, Even if the top 2 are worn out these are only really pivet points and the engine swing's around on these.

Linkages normally pop off and hense why mine are a good upgrade, rarely to they make the car jump out of gear.
