G'day all,
So lately, my standard engine mount started knocking again. The cradle has already been reinforced/welded, and a new engine mount fitted no longer than 6 months ago.
Upon inspection, I found that the cradle was faultless (now that I was able to see the weld job, i'm quite impressed, decently neat welds) along with the mount rubber.

What was causing the knock was that the lower threaded stud became loose in the mount - probably could've gotten away with tightening it back up again but...

..I grasped this opportunity to fit the spoox mounts in. However, the mount is slightly taller than the standard OEM type. So as a result, the engine sits slightly lopsided now.

Whats the go with that? Have any of you fitted these mounts before and run into the same issue?
I'm considering taking them out and getting a machine shop to chop the body down a bit...

How much are you talking? Can you space the mount down on the engine side to compensate?

You should see the spacing on my V6 to get it to fit LOL

There's no way I can space it down, I could remove the wedge piece but that would just put wayyy too much load on the cradle so that's not an option. Its probably raised it 1cm at the mount.

So its either spoox are fools, or these mounts are supposed to be used in conjunction with their gearbox mounts to raise the whole engine evenly.. thats if the gearbox mounts are thinner...
:S very confusion

EDIT: Sorry, I misread what you said adam - but no i cant space it down at the engine side because it uses a dovetail bolt/stud arrangement.

They are made by Vibra Techinc's.
But worth checking the gearbox mount as these can sag too,
Also normally the top std ones settle down to the normal level after a while, like the pictured one.

What did you use to tighten the mount into place? (i'm not suggesting this is the problem just wondering whether you made a tool or used a strap wrench etc?)

I separated it as you can see in the photos and tightened it with a 6mm allen bit on an extended ratchet.

I sent an email to spoox asking if the 205 ones were taller. lol..

Do you guys reckon its possible to raise the gearbox side with washers?

The parts should be supplied right without having to make mod's to the gearbox, Yes you can raise it but you shouldn't have to at the end of the day.

Yeah silly question from me sorry; how would you re-tighten a standard mount?

I'd be very weary of that as it is only aluminium, you'll easily sheer it off.

Emailed spoox - they were very prompt on their reply which is very good. All 205/309/306 mounts are the same height - ~70mm.

Time to space up the gearbox Razz

So yeh, raised the gearbox mount by cutting the metal bush by around 8mm. The whole show sits fairly even now. Things like exhaust clearance are all okay.
Driveshafts sit at less of an angle too. All good people. Ghetto extra sump clearance mod. Cool

i had a similar issue when mounting my custom solid mounts and having to measure up for a solid spacer to go under the cradle arm. looks to be level now, don't know a proper way of telling if it's in relation to where it was before but looks flat atleast..

Yeh. I came to the conclusion that the reinforcing done on the cradle combined with the sagging gearbox mount had pronounced the height of the Spoox mount.

You can see the welded in section is flat, I always curve mine at the edges to they sit right at the bottom of the cup and onlyraise the mount hight by the thickness of the material (Usually 3-4mm) Wink
