Hi iv just serviced my 306 rallye as im going nurburgring next week and iv put millers cfs 5w40 oil in it as was recomended, is this oil a bit too thin or will it be fine as that i dont have an oil cooler just dont want spit a rod or damage the bottom end.

any fully synthetic 10W40 oil will be fine although a purer better quality one is only the type i would use/recommend. On the track though it would be better to use a 15W50 but depends how you drive.

to me that oil seems to be too thin. i would put 15W50 in. unless someone else can suggest otherwise.

I use Total Quartz 7000 where I can, its a 10w40 semi IIRC.

Iv seen that total quarz 7000 would that cope well with going around the nurburgring at a fast pace?

I thought that a 5w 40 oil would have the same viscosity as a 10w 40 and a 15w 40 oil at operating temperature?

It will Yes and your chosen oil will be fine.

People who say oils are 'too thin' generally don't understand how the numbering system works.

Shud be ok then i brought the oil from opi oils and they reconmended it to me as i said i was going the nurburgring so i think they know what there on about, thanks for the replys guys.

i did a typo, i meant that the 5W40 is thiner than 15W50 Smile

but yes i know that XW40 is all the same viscosity etc.

bit i thought the number that preceded the W is the rate at which it heats up? lower the number is the quicker it heats up?
