does any one know if 306 diesel crankshafts are interchangable with the gti-6 crankshaft, as they are harder/stronger?________________________________________ jrg |

the engine was aquired by a friend of mine, as a suposed rebuild unit, but no cam belt, i fitted cam belt while on the bench but with all the pins lined up the engine wont turn over with out pistons hitting valves, do you think the difference in stroke would cause this? sorry if i sound stupid but i normally work with land rovers etc!!________________________________________ jrg |

sounds like you have experienced the classic slipped crank pulley, the outer section in which the pin fits into turns around the hub as the rubber perishes, if the engine was checked before removal of the belt this would have been noted.unfortunately for you you weren't to know this, as well as being supplied the engine without a belt. needless to say that you will certainly have at least two, if not more, bent valves that will require replacing. ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

Check the guides too if you have bent the valves. If it was rebuilt with the diesel crank then you've got no hope of it turning over without different pistons/rods. The info you need for those is on the forum somewhere as a few people have experimented with it. The valve/piston clearance is reeeeeally close in these engines. ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

i was suspicious of it being that, but was told by a pug main dealer and a engine rebuild company that it doesnt happen!, the engine blew up and has been rebuilt with diesel crank(old one was bent), new pistons, valves and guides etc, but supplied with no cam belt which immediatly caused a bit of suspicion, i will now show the owner this page and he will then beleive me and get a knew pulley, does anyone know the average price of one ?________________________________________ jrg |

If it has had a diesel crankshaft put in and not the correct piston and rod combo to match, the piston/pistons will be 1mm too high in the block, thus hitting the head, stopping it turning over.Regardless of what pulley you put on it, it will still happen if someone has put a diesel crank in and not the right rods/pistons. if it is the pulley, and it does have the right internals, surely whoever took the engine apart would have checked the timing? or was it a snapped cam belt? You would be better off removing the head and checking what damage may have allready been done, or taking it back to whoever rebuilt the engine, and get them to take it apart, so they cannot say that you have messed with it at all. It will be obvious if it has a diesel crank because the pistons will literally protrude 1mm over the block height, when they shouldnt. |

oh dear, if it really has been built with a diesel crank that a bit of a at least you wont have bent as many valves because it wont turn though! ________________________________________ need a part number? get on here - http://public.servicebox.peugeot.comBring on the Trumpets. |

so basically i need a gti-6 crank or a set of diesel pistons and rods! i think crank would be best as it will save wasting a head gasket and bolts etc, does anyone have one?________________________________________ jrg |

Big no no to the diesel pistons and rods, dont even consider that, it wont work. Crank is he most logical thing to do, but please please pull the head off and check the valves, seats and guides, do it properly. if you arnt confident to do it, et someone else to do it. |

i would rather put it together as standard anyway to be sure, the engine has only been tuned over by hand since some plonker put it together! so top end is still as new, ive done plenty of engines so i think io can sort it, know any one selling a crank?!________________________________________ jrg |

strip the whole engine down to nothing and start again, sounds like a right can of worms to be honest |

The only way you will know if its good is by rebuilding it completely. No problem at all then cos you know its all good ________________________________________ Nothing to see here |
