Hi all, here's my Australian spec 306 (probably considered Phase 1 in your books but down here its dubbed N3)

The day I got it Oct 07' some time, it was bog stock, I thought it was a good car. This was before I knew anything about a car..


Little did I know that almost everything was rooted including most engine mounts, front wheel bearings, suspension bushes, one of the sway bar link mount on the strut snapped etc etc. How it passed rego is beyond me.
Spent a few thou$and G's to get all the faulty bushes renewed, strut repaired (by one of the guys off this forum [can't remember his name used to drive an aw11]), wheel bearings replaced, and so on.

Being inexperienced but ambitious, I smashed shit here and there.
I thought I'd take on a gutter sideways.... it won.

dontthink those wheels are going to suit the 306 like, What have you done to your heater controls??

I appreciate your opinion, we'll see when they are mounted - which wont happen for a while because they're on back order.
Heater matrix has been bypassed, so I got rid of the temperature switch so it wouldn't give me false hope.

Group N engine mounts to go in:

Nice looking car Cool Well, I liked it up to the stage of the red wheels..I think you should keep them. And sack those 307 brakes off and fit some V6 brembos or something under there, for some proper stopping power - you've got plenty of room Thumbs up

What do you mean by "individual diagnosis action" and how do those metal bars help? Unsure

Oh and replace that front bumper, it looks like some sort of mutilation fetish thing going on.. Sad LOL

Really like the red wheels and the obvious drive-the-arse-off-it attitude. Not sure the new wheels will suit as they might look a little small. We'll see!

The coil issue was a long winded problem until i figured out how to diagnose it.
What happened was that the car would hesitate upon acceleration with anything above ¾ throttle under load. Out of the four coils, i knew that one of them was playing up. But because the coil would only play up under the aforementioned circumstances, I could not diagnose it at idle checking each individual coil for spark - the engine had to be under load.
With the individual coil clamps, I could take one coil out, drive it, and see if it hesitated (further than it would have running on 3 cylinders LOLSmile when being subjected to the symptom inducing circumstance.
When I took coil #3 out, there was no hesitation - therefore i could conclude that coil #3 was faulty.

Finally fixed the belt squeal issue i've been burdened with for far too f*cking long.
Actually made a brief walk-through/guide HERE

Some effort - guess S16s are hard to find in Australia?
Three things:
- link to your tutorial is pointing to this same page
- the dyno graph shows uncorrected BHP at the wheels?
- like your attitude Cool

Yeh i believe only 100 S16's made it to our shores. They're super rare.

Do you mean that the scale is incorrect on the dyno chart? That is true, they buggered it up at the shoot out.

Hi, are you affiliated with Lynx? I saw they had alloy pulleys for our engines too. I would have been in the market for one if i hadn't have bought a new one already. Cheers for the heads up.
The wheels are currently on backorder and wont come until april. Oh trust me, I can't wait either LOL

I've yet to get pads. Will get Lucas TRW's again cause they are the best. Can't afford anything right now. I gotta live on $100 per week to pay off my debts and shit. Also the cradle on my O/S engine mount is cracked, need to get it rewelded and reinforced.

Not really but Rich supplies me the pullies as I had the 1.9 Mi16 ones made up and a few one off's inc the S16 one's

Keep your eye's peeled for some GTi6 calliper's as the pads are cheaper and can be shared with some Clio sport models, as not many 307 driver's uprate there pads, Well thats the case with Mintex and Ferodo over here at least.

Engine bay, spot the stealthy catch can.





Leaking brake master cylinder, brake fluid slowly munching away at the paint


Bunnings garden spec heater bypass. The heater matrix was leaking and I wasn't prepared to take the dash out to replace it. I'll just wear jackets in the winter, it doesn't get that cold in australia anyway.

btw. wheel specs are 17x7 +5 offset. scrubs a little. had to do some backyard guard rolling with a wheel wrench.

When upgrading the brakes did you also swap the brake master cylinder? Did not read you doing so.

Aye Bally. I haven't installed the 307 calipers/rotors yet. I've been told that the pedal gets soft once you do so but I cant see how that can happen because the pistons on the 307 calipers are actually 2mm smaller in diameter than the 306 S16 ones. I'll keep this updated when I get around to fitting them.

I think you will want the master cylinder too, together with the vacuum drum - makes a very noticeable positive difference.
