Right , this car has been my friends for about 7 years. He paid 3.5k for the car back in the day and it was mint. He works in a foundry and with iron filings the paintwork quickly went downhill coupled with a couple of minor parking accidents and needing quite a few bits for the MOT he sold it to me recently for a decent amount of cash.

Im starting this to mainly follow whats been done , and if i ever sell the car or engine it will be on here first so people will at least have some background on the car and whats been done. So dont be expecting supercharged engines and massive spec lists, its going to be relatively standard but with some nice tweaks for track use hopefully. Main focus will be on reliability.

Car is already booked for combe on 24th april action day so its getting ready for it now.

Work completed to date.

1. All metal brake lines replaced in copper
2. Both rear flexis replaced and one front
3. All 4 brakes stripped, reassembled , greased + cleaned etc.
4. New front KYB gas shocks
5. New front KYB springs
6. Complete cambelt kit including waterpump
7. New clutch cable ( what a difference )
8. New metal drop links
9. New front lower arms/ball joints
10. New battery
11. Loads of old wires cleared out from crappy handsfree kit install
12. New spiggots for wheels and tyres resealed

Few pictures of work i have done , more to come... lots more unfortunately.

The shell as it stands

The wheels

Old parts from cambelt change

Few of the car with no belt fitted for proof if needed in future

New shocks/springs

The clutch cable bag/instructions and the new droplinks. ( what a difference a new cable makes!! )

Thanks for looking guys, i will have more done by the weekend and hopefully have it back on the deck.

Good stuff Thumbs up

I want to start a project thread for mine, but seems a little basic compared to most on here LOL

Off topic, how hard was it to do the clutch cable, as I want to change mine.

the clutch cable is a b*tch of a job unless you have a toddler in your toolbox for the use of their tiny hands

Ahh your West Midlands then, I'm East Midlands.

To be honest, I will probs deal with it, and get Carl to change it at some point LOL

I have some phase2 rear lights though that you can have for a very small fee.

No worries, if you change your mind or your passing just give me a shout Smile

What you want for the lights delivered mate, think of it as a worthwhile charity.... removing stick on tat from a GTi6 that will be seen in public is worthy no ?

Smile

Well I think we are having the next midlands meet in Brum?

If so, could you make it down to that? Can bring them with me and you can have them for free.

If not, ill check condition of them, and say

Few bits done over the weekend , mainly on the paintwork. The contamination is unreal.

Few Pics as we go:-

Shot of the freshened up suspension
Arms/Drops/Shocks/Springs

Wheels before a clean

And after

Old aux belt

Nice new one fitted

Shot of the new cambelt

Now on to some paintwork.

The contamination

The claybar process

And just some random ones during and after machine polishing

Two of my wheels were cracked, so they are in for a touch of TIG. When they are back the final job is to make the new exhaust up and MOT it Big grin

Cleaned the wheels with a diluted sulphuric acid solution , its drastic but as long as your careful and the laquer is good quality its ok for occasional use.

As stated two wheels were cracked, so a touch of a Tig, a touch or grinding and a quick lick of paint gives the following :-

Time for a couple of new tyres and after the new exhaust is made up i should be MOTable. Hopefully this weekend if my welding Skillz are all they are cracked up to be LOL:

Took this for its MOT and finally got the wheels back on, welded again after finding some pin holes.

Work needed

Couple of brake line clips that i had missed
New wheel bearing at the front
Washer jets aligned and unblocked
Few bulbs
Exhaust joint blow

and some other bits and bobs as advisories which i am working through.

Got it home and gave it a good clean , its now taxed and legal and more importantly ready for combe action day LOL

Few pics :-

Big grin

Looks really nice that Smile
I'll come and say Hi if I see your car at Combe, will be there I think with the Rallye (red with grey wheels).

One small thing - the exhaust looks broken and hanging a tad...?

Cheers guys.

Exhaust points upwards, it was the way it was welded on , looks fine from underneath but i will make a better one if it puts up with some abuse.

And yeah ride height is a little high but its sooo comfy and grippy Smile Plus im scared of the rear beam haha
