Hello again guys

I'm currently in the process of stripping off the head of my GTI-6 powered 205. I bought it a few months ago with a top end tap that I didn't really pay much attention to, but after a bit of reading here it seems that I bought a tapper.

My question is what to do about sorting the issue?

Do I try and source a known good second hand head and fit that?

Should I locate and replace only the bent valves that have been damaged?

Should I go full house and do a "complete" rebuild? If so, what exactly should I replace and how much are the parts likely to cost me?

Should I look into the possibility of buying a recon Head (What are the costs involved? I did find a great thread about recon heads a while ago, but cannot find it again ) and replace them?

Just how difficult of a job is this? I'm a apprentice mechanic and have only done engine strip downs on test beds that have never been run up, so whilst I'd like to give a rebuild a go, I am not 150% confident in my abilities if it will be a difficult job.

By the way, I'm looking to bung in a PeterT Stage 1 Inlet cam regardless of what route I go with the cylinder head.

Thoughts?

Thanks

Josh

I would remove the head and have it checked over before spending a penny Smile

I know that this is probably the right thing to do, but weighing up my options in the mean time can't do much damage Smile

Does anybody have a rough idea how much a Head rebuilt is likely to cost (Both in parts alone, and parts + a professional assembling it)? I've read some figures upwards of

I bought 8 exhaust valves at 10-96 + VAT each, and 2 inlet valves at 6-29 + VAT in Nov 2007 for a head rebuild (okay, clearly not all the valves!) from Euro Car Parts. Great service too - they turned up the next day!

I know I should have had the entire head stripped down and tested etc, but the car only cost me
