Ok so I have noticed a fair bit of clunking coming from the boot area and was advised that it was probably a beam mount that was gone and now I also have the back wheels rubbing on the inside of the arches.

Im guessing that maybe they are related and that it probably has something to do with the fact that the car was lowered. Also I may be imagining it but maybe its worse under cornering and it definitely got worse once a full tank of fuel was put in.

Due to where I live getting a whole 'new' (read second hand) beam will be difficult as all the people who break 6's seem to live about 500 miles away and postage would probably nearly double the price!

Anyways I thought I would start by replacing
this

and

this

Anyone who knows about these things think this is a good idea or am I p*ssing in the wind just by changing these and really I HAVE to get a replacement beam? Any thoughts are welcome. Cheers.

you dont have to get a replacement beam, but odd on that it needs a rebuild, especially if its rubbing already.

hopefully when you take it apart it hasn't gone too far and damaged the tube.

cheapest way is to fit a good used beam, stripping and rebuilding the beam is more expensive and much more time consuming and you will need a press and a lot of patience if it dont come apart easily. The mount from ecp wont make any differenece to the wheels rubbing the inner arches

Damn, this is what I was afraid of.

So anyone have any ideas how much a beam weighs then? Was thinking a courier might do it for under 50 quid but I guess it depends how heavy it is.

On the upside at least I havent spent 60 quid on mounts that will do nothing!

There is only one and no 6's or Rallye's Sad

You still selling one Jonnie? You could remove the parts that I wont need to save weight and sell them on seperately, ie brakes and hubs.

wrap it in cardboard or pallet wrap and throw it in a UPS van, tends to work best for beams i find
