Right my 306 rallye has a really annoying ticking, more so when the engine is upto temp and the oil is thinner.

With the increase of revs the ticking gets louder and faster, had a chap by me have a look and do a compression test on it for me all 4 were reading about 190psi and holding pressure too, he then did the screwdriver on the cam cover (front) where we could here that no:2 had the really bad ticking on the front cam, hold the screwdriver to number 1 and you could here the distant ticking but miles quieter.

He said its the oilways for the hydraulic lifters as they can get blocked up easy and clogged, I am hoping this is the scenario rather than bent valves etc etc, doesn't seem to be down on power as it still pulls very well indeed.

Cambelt was done by previous onwer about 8k ago, oil is cams racing oil.

Can anybody enlighten me before I jump in have the lifters done if its something else

Had the same sound on my 6, started of fairly quite. It got louder and eventualy i took it to my local peugeot specialist.

The drive for my oil pump had been sheared apart, my water pump had a chunk took out of it and one of my water pipes burst.

The oil pump failure was due to the bottom pully for the aux belt being loose which rattled the oil pump drive apart and in turn cost me alot of money.

This was aparently linked to the water pump getting damaged aswell. Mite not be the problem but worth having a look at your bottom pulley just in case.

Hope this helps. Happy

wont be the tappet/lifters unless its been run very low on oil, in which case the bottom end wouldnt be too healthy either.

Most likely to be a bent valve or 16, and if they have a history of being replaced then there's a damaged guide in there too.

its not a black "low mileage" one is it?
