306 2.0L xsi 16v

i have purchased the above car and i have noticed that when i turn the ignition i get an oil level reading but when the engine turns on the needle drops and doesnt read what i assume would be the temp or pressure.

i have looked at the sump and there is a sensor at the front near the oil filter which has no plug, plugged to it. i also noticed above the oil filter a plug that matches the shape and colour of the sensor connection but its to short to reach the sensor.

i am assuming that there is a little extesion wire that would connect the two together that maybe the previous owner forgot to put in.

i have spoken to peugeot and they advised that the sensor is only there to block the who and that no wire should be plugged there as my moddle doesnt show that the should be anything plugged in.

i think peugeot is wrong!! i think the previous owner forgot to plug it back in to be honest.

any advice.

many thanks

there isn't an oil temp gauge, so it wouldn't matter if it was connected or not.

i have seen loads of variants tbh. i have a plug on my std s16 engine in the sump directly below the oil filter which isn't plugged in, but has a plug loosely dangling near it - but which has never been fitted

on my old xsi (8v) this was connected but don't know if it played a part or not, as my gauge displayed level when on ignition [2] and the pressure when running

fun fun fun

if you are worried you can always run another gauge with the sensor plug. simples

i was under the impression that the oil level gauge reads oil level but once the engine is started it would read oil temp.

sorry i know u already aswered it but as i explained above the oil level gauge doubles into a temp gauge aswell. so if connected to the sensor it should theoretically tell you the oil level and once the engine is fired up the oil temp.
