I am currently in the process of lowering my gti 6. Everything has went fine except the obvious problem of removing the torsion bars. As my 6 is a '98 phase2 the torsion bars seem to be siezed at both of the splined ends. I have tried various sizes of sliding hammers but they wont move, someone memtioned to me 'some heat' might help but i'm worried of causing damage to the bearings, seals ect. is this the case? Any help or advice would be much appreciated, thanks. ________________________________________ PH2 NILE BLUE GTI 6 |

It may be easier to strip the beam off the car so you can press the bars out. Whilst you are there you may as well fit new seals if the bearings are in good order.Carl ________________________________________ C.G.Cars of Leicester, Peugeot/Citroen/Renault specialist Tel: 01162 624498/07799 405184 WWW.CGCARSLEICESTER.CO.UK36 narborough road south, Leicester LE3 2fn MOT station now open, tests £35 with a free retest. It is much easier to take the beam off if you have a press or to just remove the whole trailing arm for each side.Support it on something sturdy (and fireproof), use a blow torch on the area shown below and get the persuader out It will free up eventually. Oh and new seals all round to replace the crispy ones ________________________________________ Standard Black 6Black HBSC6 |

both ends will probably be seized making it extremely hard to get arms off, use a porta power to removed arms then a press to get bars out of arms as they are usually stuck hard in the arms |

To allow torsion bars to come out time afer time use CS90 copper grease and some silicon on the retaining offset washer and around the torsion bar where it goes into the trailing arm assembly. |
