Hi guys, its nearly time to get the engine out and put the ml5t gearbox on, and im still pretty much in the dark as how im going to do it

just wondering if anybody can shed some light on the followoing..

1) mounting point, is it the same, or will i need to make up an adapter to fit the original gearbox mount?

2) as its being used on an old 309, i have manual clutch mechanism in place, how do i change the hydraulic to manual? and what release bearings will i need etc.

3) gear cable mechanism. can i simply bolt this inside the car, route the cables to the gear box and then jobs gooden?

4) which clutch to use with the ml5t size flywheel (230mm is it? )

any other info would also be greatly appreciated. cheers

1, IIRC it is yes.

2, convert the box to a manual arm or the pedal box to hydraulic, or create a linkage to work between them, stock clutch.

3, they will indeed, some minor fab needed to bolt the front of the gear lever box on, the rear bolts fit from memory.

4, whichever one is listed for your engine/flywheel/gearbox combo, sounds like you need the XU10J2TE, i.e 8v turbo clutch.

how does the hydraulic bit work on the box? does it simply pull to release? if so should be too hard to make an adapter. to change the arm is it a gearbox apart job, or is the pin on the outside of casing?

xu10j2te sounds right as i have that bottom end as well, didnt really think about that one lol

cheers

also do you know if the length the shafts need shortening will be the same as if it was a v6 conversion? only ask as thirdtimelucky off 205 forum said he could do it but wasnt 100% if it was the same length as v6 converted ones because of position of gearbox or not?

no idea about the ML/ME compatability, I doubt it is.

if you're running an ML then Paul's driveshafts I think would work as the whole ML range of engines use the same shafts in each car.

i.e 2.1 DT, 2.0, 2.2 HDI, V6 use the same shafts in a 406.

just need to ascertain that the diff is in the same place laterally in the engine bay.

what would affect lateral movement of the diff? just angle of the engine? as the gearbox mount will be in the same place height wise.

cheers
