just to shed some light ,when i brought my 6 the clock/temp didn`t work so i investigated to find out there was no connector, brought a connector with 6 wires on it:
2brown
2purple
1orange
1green/yellow

tried to match wires up ie: orange=orange,green/yellow=green/yellow is there a right way or wrong way for the purples and browns to go together, wen you touch 1 purple to brown from the car wiring the radio come onWhistle

is there away to test that the clock/temp works ?Unsure

Yes stick it in another 306 with a working clock then you can ascertain by messing between the two whether it's bulbs or clock.
