As he said, do when red hot also if very stuck spray a small ammount of release oil or wd40 etc down each plug hole but not a lot as you dont want it going into the cylinders much when removed. Leave to soak for a bit and then crack them off. I had real trouble with mine when i first got the car they hadnt been changed in ages and were clearly overtightened. I thought i was going to snap them to be honest but they did budge eventually.
When you fit the new ones only turn until you feel some resistance as the crush washer gets squished then stop.
