I hit a pothole the other day on the front passenger side Doh There doesn't seem to be any damage to my wheel thank God but on acceleration the car seems to be pulling to the left, and the handling overall seems pretty twitchy. Would this be a tracking problem, where the wheels have just been put out of alignment? Or could it be something worse?

I've contacted the council and the hole has since been filled, so I can't go and take any photos of it, they've told me to make a written claim after it's been fixed.

Thanks Smile

Should hopefully just be tracking, but it's worth just checking if the lower arm is bent as they're designed to absorb the impact and make sure the track rod/track rod ends the same as the other side. I gave mine a twat in the snow messin about n it was the arm that suffered most. I should think you'll be ok with just having the tracking adjusted mate from what you've said.

Double check the wheel on the inside mate, i did mine two days ago and the wheel's square, but looks ok from the outside. Didn't know til the tyre blew out round a corner and came half off the wheel.

Better to be safe than sorry.

Ouch Sad I'll take the wheel off tomorrow and take a proper look. I really hope not as they're a brand new set of turinis with new tyres too. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Also, I'm still learning about the mechanics of these cars, I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this stuff. When you saw lower arm, do you mean the wishbone?

Yep same thing, they're curvy anyway so only way you can tell unless it's proper bad is to compare it with the other side, use a ruler or whatever you can just to take a couple of references from each side and compare

That's great, didn't want to be looking at the wrong thing and getting nowhere with it.

I'm going to Kwik Fit soon to get the alignment checked by their laser tracking system, so hopefully all is well. Going to get the car jacked up later this evening and put on stands so I can take a proper look at everything and check it over. I saw in the FAQ about how to replace track rod ends too, so I'll give those a good check.

Thanks again for your help Smile

Just got back from kwik fit. It's currently at +3 n/s and -3 o/s...Thing is though, I don't think this was caused by the pothole. Last week Hovis and I were trying to change my springs, and we had to replace the droplinks...he did one side, I did the other. I managed to put the droplink on the wrong way around, while his is the correct way round, so it's pushing the anti-roll bar so that it rotates left, which will be what's causing this. I'm going to change it round the correct way later, and then take it back for another test, but hopefully it'll be fine!

While it was on the hydraulic lift at Kwik Fit I had a look at the wheel from under the car and it all seems fine, but I'll take it off later for a proper look. Also checked the wishbones for play and they seem pretty stiff, so I think sorting the droplinks will put everything right again Smile

Nah managed to get it repaired, balanced really well too and the tyre's holding pressure.

Gonna shell out for another cyclone next month anyway, means i can refurb the wheels one at a time and eventually have 4 straight wheels fitted Thumbs up

Changed the droplinks around so they're both on the correct way now, but the tracking was still out by 4 from the pothole, so I've had to pay
