Oooh what fun, my clutch cable just snapped. Fortunately it happened literally as I pulled into my driveway. How considerate of it! Anyway, just been reading some threads on replacing it and it seems like I'm in for all sorts of fun. And probably some blood, sweat and swears! Any encouragement would be greatly appreciated! ________________________________________ ’00 Moonstone GTi6My Flickr Photostream |

Don't give up!Tip one, undo the bolt holding the aircon pipes in the drivers side wheel arch. Follow the FAQ, have a break for a brew before setting fire to the car |

Get a friend to help you so they can keep tension on the string. Loads easier with someone in the car to help.________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

Use the strongest string you can find and get someone to help by holding the aircon pipes out of the way.________________________________________ Standard Black 6Black HBSC6 |

did mine a few weeks back on my own took less than an hour will say you do have to give it a furkin big tug to get it to come through the bulkhead on removal I had all my weight on it and had to bounce on the cable for it to let go and im no small lad ________________________________________ Another Broken one |

I did it by myself, I had to attach the end of the cable to some braided hoses to get it through, was quite an effort though, having another person in the car will take so much time off the job |

If anyone's interested I fitted the new clutch cable yesterday. I have a lot of respect for anyone who has done this before, it really isn't easy! My old cable had snapped almost at the bulkhead, so the "tie string to old cable and pull through" method was out of the question. The rubber grommet that sits against the bulkhead was an absolute nightmare to get out past the aircon pipe. I wedged about 8 screwdrivers in from different angles to try to get enough clearance to get it out. Finally managed it, and the new cable went in without too much trouble. So in all it took me about 4hrs to do (and I know my way around a toolbox!), and while some of you will definitely laugh at that, I feel quite proud of myself. It's a horrible horrible job, even more so if you don't have tiny hands! Anyone who has done this will know exactly what I'm saying, and anyone who hasn't....I hope you never have to! ________________________________________ ’00 Moonstone GTi6My Flickr Photostream |

Try doing this in belgium on the way to the nurburgring, then realising that as our cars are all right hand drive and theirs are all wonky they don't have the right parts, cue driving to the ring without a clutch to try and source the parts there only for the RAC to drop the ball and be unable to source the parts there either resulting in my car being trailored all the way back to Carls!I don't think an Astra hire car has ever been given so much abuse... ________________________________________ Renault Megane Renaultsport 230 F1 Team R26 |

Although I bet it paled in comparison to taking a 6 round the ring. It's my ambition. Awaiting funds! ________________________________________ ’00 Moonstone GTi6My Flickr Photostream |
