Im having rather a lot of crashing coming from the rear of my 6 so im guessing that the shocks are gone, can anybody confirm this for me?

Secondly does anybody know if shocks form any part of the MOT, ie if they are f*cked then will I fail?

Lastly I was looking at some KYB cheapo's on Buypartsby with the part number 341166. There is no picture and the description is rather basic but the model says '306 2.0 16V (7A, 7C, N3, N5)'. I have no idea what the 7A etc bit refers to so if anyone could enlighten me I would be very grateful!

Sorry for the list of questions, just dont want to pay the 8 or so quid postage from BPB to find out it is the wrong shocks, or worse that there is nowt wrong with the ones I have.

Cheers, Richie

It could be the rear beam mounts causing the knocking.

You'd be better off checking the beam mounts before spending money on new shocks. And personally I would get the oe k6 bilsteins from pug.

If you buy cheap, you buy twice. OE spec FTW Wink

quite right, usually is the front beam mounts that cause knocking.

the original 5206 K6 dampers don't cost that much,

Ok sound, is there an FAQ of how to do this somewhere on the site (dont worry I know where the FAQ section is, just dont know exactly which part of which one is the mount you are referring to). Or even a photo with a circle on the part in question.

I am fairly clueless as to the rear suspension setup as I have not had to work on it before so please bear with me if I seem a little stupid!

So, to be clear, if you just want to check for the bolts being loose, you'd put the car on stands, take the load off the beam (by jacking that up too) then recheck the bolts (at the three points in the boot) are tight. Then drop the car down.

Is the above correct?

Thanks

Hmm I wonder if thats what is wrong with mine as the thumping noise always comes from around the boot area so maybe ill have a check and see if the bolts are tight and then go from there.
