Both my Fans seem to be coming on randomly, have checked the Brown sensor and all seems to look fine, not that dirty either... what other things could it be, Engine / Temp etc acts as it should.

could it just be dirty inside the sensor itself so not making a connection?

Ta'

My 1.6 glx used to do this. I cleaned the sensor and blasted it with wd40 as well in case there was water in it.

It actually turned out to be losing coolant due to a perishing pipe, which eventually let go at 70mph, leaving me stranded and waiting for the AA.

I would definitely try cleaning it first. See if that makes any difference.

had this problem turned out to be the fan control unit (bitron) located behind the wheel arch liner on the passenger side they fill up with water and coroade the terminals causing the problems you have givin. replaced mine and sealed it in a zip bag to stop water getting in. hope this helps

Your thinking the double pole relay are you not?
Black and red thing, attached to the back of the ECU box.

As said, bitron is up behind the NS wheel / arch.

technically Bitron is a manufacturer of electrical components, namely relays electronic control units and sensors, the relay is made by bitron, the brown sensor is made by bitron, the cooling fan/a/c control unit is made by Bitron, the central lockign unit is made by Bitron, etc

Razz

soooo... if it the "Bitron" is this expensive Sad

im guessing it may have something to do with the previous owner removing wheel arches to fit 17's on Doh

brown sensor is in the thermostat housing, relays in the middle of the fans.

don't use a switch, that's just a bodge waiting for an eric when you forget to turn it on....

well i changed the relays an it never done anything, so what else is there to check? if i pull that brown switch off the fans should kick in??

on my rallye its got orginal wiring for fan so it runs as normal but when on the track on the cool down lap ive got it to a switch which kicks the fans in at a quicker speed, all wired up good, not by me tho lol

have you checked you have power to the relays? try manually switching the relays with a power probe, the fan would come on then, IF its not seized which is very common.

another fault can be the control unit.

will try powering the fans, looks like there is a red wire (prev bodge) going from relay box bit to the main loom, think its going to be best sticking a switch on rather than trying to sort it out as the guy isint wanting to spend alot on it really.
