you haven't said what's included in that price, Autodata states its 28 hours for a complete engine, 25 hours for a bottom end alone or 8 for a cylinder head remove inspect and refit.

to do it properly you'd have to take the head off as well to change the piston rings, in which case you might as well get the head checked and fit new valve stem seals and a headgasket at least.

If the head isn't coming off though they're just doing the main and big end bearings, that's about

Is that with you taking them the bottom end or are they stripping it out? its a huge amount of work if they are removing and rebuilding. Whats wrong with the engine?

Well I'm not totally sure what work is going to be envolved as they are going to inspect the damage... But as a rough idea to rebuild the bottom end he said 6-700!

I done a bearing at my last track day whilst the engine was running with 140degree oil temps...
Oil cooler on the list me thinks Smile

And you kept driving it?! That price seems very cheap.

The ACL bearings are the ones I supply which are also available through Miles @ Pug Racing.

They are a tri-metal construction, mainly made up of copper with a lead overlay, and are much more durable than the OEM alu-tin type bearings.

They also have a fractionally bigger running clearance, for better oil flow, to improve lubrication and heat dissipation.

As for the rebuild price, I would guess that is the price for replacing the crank / shells in situ rather than taking the engine out.

There's nothing wrong with doing it that way, unless the failure is severe, and the bearing has spun around within the cap. If this is the case, you will have to take the engine out, get the head off, and replace suspect rod, as the big-end will be stretched and out of round.

Your bill will be much bigger then.

Rich.
