Hi there,

Just been reading some other treads on this section to get an idea of what I can do to the 6 engine.
Basically I'm going to be using my 6 everyday to go to work in and i'm also going to use it weekends for driving and maybe the odd track day once in a blue moon, so......any suggestions?
I read about cams are only really worth while if I change the pistons and ITB's can be used on the standard ECU....
I have been looking on Hi-Flow heads and they have heads kits available are they any good?
and what kind of igintion system is used on the 6 engine and how can I upgrade it past the usual better plugs and leads? I know spoox use a 106 rallye S2 coil pack is this any good?
I just have loads of questions and google isn't really giving me many answers so hopefully you guys can help me fill in the gaps

Thanks for your time

It all depends on your budget and what you are wanting from your car. The supercharger conversions are quite popular.

I should have said earlier

I have looked at the supercharger conversions and I'm not really looking for that level of power but having looked at the torque graph I can see why that would be good for everyday use because it produces nearly the same amount of it's original peak torque at like 2-2.5k rpm so it should make for easy driving at normal road speeds

as for budget I have about

Or you can put in a 2.9 V6 out of a D8 406. Will get you around 200BHp and 200lbft out of the box. Very cheap to buy the engine, but a certain amount of fabrication is needed to get it to fit. Cheaper than cams as well, although there is a weight penalty of around 35 kgs and lose a gear.

I would get your pistons machined, bung in some decent cams (PeterT creates some very good ones in Oz that aren't that expensive) and get it mapped. Don't worry about ITBs as the touring cars easily made over 200 with the normal (if slightly modified) throttle body.

Like he said, If you want 190 thats about what I got on a standard engine on 45mm bodies and you can get the same with pocketed pistons and cams.

3-4k would get you a pretty good set up going there, but never what a supercharger would get you power wise though.

Im staying N/A though.

Going for 2mm oversize, high comp pistons, 1.9td crank, (2mm longer stroke) to give 2139cc. Cams wise something like catcams 4903108 circa 11mm + lift, 275 duration ish.

Throttle bodies, management, 3 angle valve seats, leaving the head alone port wise though.

A similar set up is making around 230bhp and 190ft lb torque without revving the crap out of it.

for your 3-4k id concentrate on engine management, thats what makes any modification work in the end.

Then look at pistons, rods, cams and throttle bodies, and paying someone to set it all up for you.

so many variables, you could just throttle body it, have your stock pistons dished and some mid row cams and get 190+ bhp. Or you could go aftermarket pistons to get the compression up, some slightly wilder cams and see 210+ for example.

Id go supercharger if i was you though, better drivability if its main use is everyday.

4k budget, just get a supercharger.

high revving n/a is fun in a wringing the neck out of it to go fast kind of a way.

Supercharged feels like there's a mini jet plane pushing your car up the road, and sounds like it tooLove
