They all do. I can't tell you why though.

Have you asked over on pug306.net? They'll have much more experience with the diesels.

I can only imagine the top one being a vent hole though.

could be a manufacturing error and another was added to correct it on a batch?
my dturbo never had that. 1998 s reg

what Mankee said, that's an ally sump so its an aircon car, or the engine came from an aircon car at least.

it was used on looooads of diseasel engines and a few petrol engines, most didn't have the temp sender fitted.
