Hi Guys

Got round this morning to doing my intake manifold gasket which had gone, got a new one from pug (2 in the packet?)

Anyway replaced it and tightened everything back up. Then when i started the car it just revved and bounced off the limiter, so i diconnected everything and replaced it but this time put 2 gaaskets on as there were 2 in the back, reconnected everything as normal.

Start the engine again, same thing, revvs very high, so i disconnected the battery planning an ecu reset, now when i start the car it immedietly stalls and if you use the throttle to stop it stalling it is very rough.

Any ideas where i'm going wrong guys?

Have you reconnected the idle control valve?

+1

the symptoms you described are the ones of when you take the ICV off and clean it out, IIRC from when i did mine, it will do that for 2-3 times then sort itself out

To reset the valve, turn the ignition on to the second click ready to start, and then wait for the fuel pump to finish priming.

Then switch the ignition back off and do the same again. Each time you do this, the ICV extends slightly, so when you do crank the engine over to start it (after a 5-6 times or doing this procedure) it is at the correct setting and it will then idle normally.

Hope this helps,

Stan.

Thanks for the replies guys, dont think it has anything to to with the ICV though, just removed the manifold again and have given it a really good clean off to remove what was left of the old one!

Do you guys recomend using a gasket compound on it?

No, just make sure ALL of the old gasket is off the head and the manifold, and replace using one gasket only. Yes

My next suggestion was that you have an air leak, if you have still got parts of the old gasket on the mating surfaces, its possible you have air leaks there. Yes

Stan.
