Before I get told off, I have searched the forum and found nothing Big grin

I need to take the head off the 6, but I'm pondering whether to take the block out. I've got all the necessary tools available and I'll like to degrease the engine to make it look as good as it should.

Do you recommend that I remove the block to sort it out? If so, what needs to be removed in a nutshell?

Cheers all, Matty.

I find it easier to take the engine out to work on the engine, i took it out to replace the headgasket when i blew mine a few months ago.

Would you find it easier to work on an engine thats in the car, or not you have to ask yourself?

I did the gasket on my Turbo Diesel (which is a very similar engine) and it was a b*tch to remove the manifolds - the intake manifold, air box to turbo pipe and one of the matrix pipes were all in the same area!

I also found it hard to work on the timing belt, sort out the tensioner and I had to force the engine forward. It does seem easier to spend the extra time removing the engine to save your sanity!

As per your other thread (why you felt you need two I don't know...) I would leave the engine in.

Everything you want to clean you will remove to change the head gasket anyway, and the head bolts will be fun and games with the engine removed!

Are there any nasties I can expect? The XUD9 engine is a pig to work on, but the XU10 has the intake manifold on the front and no turbo.

How difficult is the exhaust to remove from the manifold on these?

Should be cracking on with it when we get the hobby shop.

Pretty sure I've seen users on here reccomend leaving the manifold attached to downpipe, and remove manifold from headWink
