hi I just signed up to this forum as I own a Gti 6 and thought maybe you fine gents could help meWhistle

My problem is when I brake the steering wheel shakes really bad and even without braking theres a slight squiek from the OSF wheel.

I had my disc on this side changed 4months ago and it cured the problem up on till 6weeks after then it came back.

Any help would be great

Hi there mate the wobble is commonly linked to wheels not balanced properly try just swamping your wheels around to see if that cures it,
if so get them all balance checked if running the original cyclones you'll have to find somewhere that can do balancing without the aid of wheel center hole

Happy

as for the squealing could just be down to your pads do a search on break sequel in the search section other members will have suffered the same problems and probably have got the answer from other members Wink

Welcome to the club!

Dave

I'd imagine thats down to a warped disk or a badly balanced or even buckled wheel.

The way it went then came back would suggest a warped disk to me

Pitted, warped discs, uneven brake contact could be a possibility. Wheel wobble is usually at high speeds? Unsure on that one.

More worryingly, why are you only changing 1 disk?
You should always change them in pairs.

Could be the caliper is binding slightly, hence the permanent squeak.
The binding could also cause the disk to overheat and warp, hence it being fine initially and then the wobble returning.

Check the disk for run-out to make sure its not warped.

Then after that, as said, make sure the wheels are balanced correctly. Easier said then done though to find somewhere that can do it properly.

warped disc, then another warped disc caused by the calliper being slightly seized, take it off, giv it a clean and a wee service.

The squeak could be the friction material lifting off the backing plate. I've only ever had it happen with Mintex M1144's tho. The vibration is likely to be either wheel balance issues or a warped disc. Personally I'd go for the latter as you've said it only vibrates when you brakeWink
