how do you tell if the top (cam belt side) engine mount is gone? i have noticed a knocking when i let off the accelerator, i have replaced the cable but its still doing it. sounds asif its coming from the top engine mount area

Rock the engine for a start and see the play. If there is it may have come loose or if there is excessive play the cup may have corroded.

they can crack in this area, best thing to do it unbolt it and have a look, its not hard or under any load

i searched and read through some threads but didnt see anything about knocking, just play in the engine. il give it a wiggle tomorow and check the rubbers.

Gearbox one will take litterally 15mins, but dont try and do it with the ABS Lines still in place Whistle (Dont ask LOL)

My engine didnt really have any abnormal play but the mount was gone! Stick a jack under the engine to take the weight and dismantle the mount! Will take you 15 mins max and maybe some WD40 but it will be clear then! Also dont let the captive nut drop from under the mount, if its split/cracked its prob not captive anymore. If it f*cked get yourself to Southampton (daveyboy) for a fix up and mod, cost me

Just suggest you check it as if the top mount is noisy then the gearbox one will be well worn. It all depends on how many previous owners have been lighting up the front wheels, the engine trys to tear itself free.LOL
