i've been stripping my engine down to do the head gasket, stupidly i didn't take the thermostat housing off the head before i removed it as i thought all the hose's were off. i ended up cutting a small section of hose that comes off the bottom of the hose its about 4" long. i work in a scrap yard so i was just gonna nick another bit of hose, the problemis it's got a white plastic lining running through the inside. does it matter if i just use some normal hose the same diameter?

No any coolant hose will be fine, it's only a water hose just like all the rest after all.

I think it's only a lined hose to give it some protection from being torn or split during removal or refitting as it's so small.

That hose is a tricky little bugger to replace with the thermostat housing on though! Ideally you want to remove the studs from the head and replace them once the thermostat housing is in place with that hose fitted.
