I've noticed the water temp in the '6 is getting up to over 100 degrees when sat in traffic, i get a bit of steam out if the rad overflow(i presume because its boiling) then the fans seem to come on full whack. I don't think they come on at a slower speed at a lower temp.
is this normal?

nope, check both fans work, sounds like one may be seized or you have a dead relay.

naah one runs all the time if the A/C is on, then you get the second come on low then both come on flat out.

thermostat opens at 88 deg, not sure of the actual temps, but the figures 96/118 are on servicebox next to the Bitron control box.
