Ordered a thermostat and this was delivered (didn't come with the rubber seal or do these cars not need them?, also is this the correct stat?)

Should be a seal IIRC.

When I had my head gasket done I mentioned this to Carl as I had a pattern item in which was very much different to the Pug part it replaced - so since it was apart we ordered a new Pug one and stuck it in.

See on the bottom it has temperatures stamped into the bottom! These will be different from whats stamped on that Pug thermostat - and also the actual valve is much bigger and central on the Pug thermostat compared to that one.

You didnt get it from MPD did you?

Cheers for that buddy, I ordered it from Eurocarparts and said 'o.e' item Only ordered it as I don't have a chance to get to pug to pick one up!

Will this do as a temp replacement untill I've time to get to pug while there open and pick one up as the temps are real low.

Cheers

Yeah it should do - was fine on mine but as said you will find the temp stamped on the bottom will differ from a genuine item. These are the temps it begins to open and the Pug ones open earlier IIRC.

Maybe it matters, maybe it doesnt.

The way I saw it though is that small valve might not flow as much water as the Pug item - not what you need on a hot summers day when your giving it the beans!

When you put it in look for a rubber seal around the one thats in there and carefully remove it to put on the new one or you may get some leaking occuring. Be careful with it as it may be fragile due to age etc. A new Pug thermostat should come with a new seal, ask when you order and if it doesnt order one of those too.

Chris.

Thanks for that matey, will have a look as i say its just temp untill i can get down to pug to get one, just don't like the fact of driving 2 and from work with the water temp hanging around 70 - 75 and the oil taking longer to even reach the end of the bars lol.

I was told it should sit at 80 - 90, When i put my foot down the temp decreases rather than increases which is also weird, only when I'm stuck in slow moving traffic it rises and sticks to where it should be? I may sound like a noob but does the Oil heat up due to the engine getting hot so if the stat was faulty the oil temp wouldnt raise either would it?

Hey again - If the stat's leaking so's that the temp doesnt rise as it should, would it be likely to be the seal or actual thermostat?

Cheers

yes it does, but when you are moving faster, you are pushing more cold air through the radiator, thats why the engine is supposed to be colder when moving, over being sat idle in traffic.

sounds like the stat is stuck open hence the engine isn't warming up properly till its stationary. Simply use that stat take the old one out if its got a seal then reuse it with this stat job done, It'll also mean you'll get decent warm air into the cabin when you're moving which i'd guess isn't happening at the moment. i've a van like it at the moment bloody vauxhalls you have to take the cam belt off to get to the stat on this one
