pugracing I think. ATB's are a popular choice for road/track use, plate diffs are better for sole track work imo, but they would be a handful on the road, unless you set it up fairly mild, and then theres not much point in having it!

You sometimes have to grind out a bit of the diff cover, but it depends on the diff, you don't need to for ATB's, but I did for a ZF one. It's not hard though, you can do it with a standard grinder, just have to be careful you don't remove too much. Don't think you'll go too far wrong with a Quaife ATB or a Tran-X diff. Tran-x website is quite useful too.

I'll reply to the PM in a few minutes, But I only use Plate diff's and as said allot of my customer's use them on the road with no problems at all, With P/S it's even better too as you can have more agrissive setting's.
ATB still act like open diff's, Lift a wheel or Break a Shaft and you'll end up with no drive and I;ve never got on with them either

The plate ones need the plates replacing every so often don't they? How often do you have to do that?

I would go with a plate to be honest. The Quaiffe is ok, but once, you've used a plate, youll be amazed.

just what i was going to say, have a good look around, some people have very little problems with plate diffs and long service intervals.

The Quaife however is literally fit and forget, 12000 miles down the line you wont have to replace the plates in it or anything. There are many a good review about both types off diff, they are both better than standard though.

When i get around to it i will be fitting a Quaife.

Ive been in saxo VTS with one of Quiafes MA gear kits and diff in it, was really quite impressed, topped out at around 100mph on limiter though, the VTS's are nigh on as quick as a GTI6 upto a ton normally, but this thing would leave a GTI6 standing untill it topped out, went around bends too, stock suspension, could really feel the diff working, pulling it through the corners.

Everyone has thier own opinion, but it is you choice as to whos you'd like to follow, the plate 'sounds' (i have no experience with them, just what i have read) better as an all out competition type diff, but the fit and forget aspect of the Quiafe is hard to forget. yes it works like an open diff if a wheel is lifted, but for a road or track car if you are lifting the inside front wheel other than clipping curbs then you need to re-assess your suspnsion set up.

Just my 2p's worth. Whistle

servicing them isn't that expensive either I've heard.

Unless you are not handy with your spanners and the box has to come off every time at a garage Blink

Doesn't have to come all the way off. IIRC you can also get to the diff if you drop the subframe a little.
