Just any grease i would say. Something is better than nothing. I always used Mobil grease at work for this type of application and it always worked. I would just like to add Miles is a top lad, he called me when he promised he would, and he sent them through Thurdays and they arrived today. Cant fault him. TOP MAN. ________________________________________ Previous china gti6 and Rallye owner. Now a proud Astor Gti 6 owner. Missing he BMW already... |

Is the top short linkage supposed to be able to move around side to side rotating on the balls? I would have thought so but the other's don't seem to move? |

I think the other two won't as they're twisted and that one's straight. Pretty sure that's fine, mine was the same Tee hee, he said balls. ________________________________________ Membership expiring soon, get in contact on our new little forum project. |

I ditched the grease idea and used a tiny 1mmx6mm o-ring (for the small ones, and an 11mm one for the big one) on top of one end of the ball joints... this then site inside the cup when they are pressed on. Removed all vibration from the linkages, so no noise from them any more - and still the same excellent shifting.________________________________________ 200+ secret squirrels hiding under the bonnet with 4 wide mouth frogs... |

Mine are pretty damn noisy at the moment, even cruising at 80 in 6th there's a slight rattle. Goes away if you just push the lever towards the passenger side a tiny bit. |

Mine was noisy, what I did was remove the heatshield and removed the gearstick completely, then I exposed the "ball" cleaned it and greased it up, put it all back together and noise has gone since, I did notice however that the ball had several cracks in it and could have done with replacing really. ________________________________________ Team Supercharged Gti-6™ |

Thanks Dave i'll give that a go, I noticed yesterday the long rod from gear stick to linkages has a lot of play in it so something in that area needs looking at.I saw in another thread Miles' linkages come with circlips which I guess go around the ball? Mine don't have these (came with the car) which could be the cause of the up-down movement. |
