have you got the flywheel locked with something, beacause if not you will never get it off, the engine will just turn over backwards which isnt advisable. And yes it undoes backwards

The flywheel is the large lump of metal at the other end of the engine, between the engine and the gearbox - what keeps your engine turning over.

I got my pulley off by a mate standing on the brake whilst in gear - worked for me. Just use a long enough handle on the socket bar to get the leverage - should go with a bit of a crack, but it does go.

(I've heard horror stories about fixing a long-handled socket to the bolt, jamming it into the floor then spinning the engine on the starter - not recommended!)

Lock the flywheel and get a big bar/scaffold on it.

Theres an 8mm hole in the block at the flywheel end behind the start motor what u put a rod through and it locates in a notch on the flywheel to lock the engine.

So - In case I have this the wrong way around - the crank pulley bolt undoes by turning anti clockwise as a standard bolt. Is that right?
