I thought I would add my progress with my 205 over the last few years as in the coming months it should be complete. The car is being built for the track and may possibly see the road on occasional weekends.

Spec wise it should roughly be the following:

High boost S/C 6 (Rich_W)

Gaz golds 275lbs spring
23mm TB's
25mm ARB
Group N tarmac dampers

X-sport racing cage

Compbrake B4 front set up

Compomotive MO1682's 16x8

Thats all I can think of the top of my head, I've collected a lot of parts in the last two years. The shell is going away next Sunday for the kit to be fitted. I can post a final spec once its all finished.

The wheels are ET0 so should fit nicely.

Why have you gone high boost? What sort of power are you aiming to get as the normal 400bhp would a real struggle to get the power down

400bhp on track in a 205, coming from someone wit a track spec 205, and only running just under 200, you WILL struggle

you are going to either hope it's raining and use proper wets, or very dry and run full slicks.

look forward to meeting you on track to comapre Big grinD:

There has been quite a few 205's with more power than I plan on having and are coping fine. Just takes a different driving style instead of planting your foot after every corner. Time will tell and if it doesn't cope I can just get it remapped.

There are a few running big power (around 350 bhp), but they are not track cars. Most of them are drag or "show" cars, and certainly won't be much good on track.

A low boost would be just as quick on track, unless you are secretly the stig??

If its a maxi it will be running reasonably wide rubber I assume? With well set-up suspension and a fairly aggressive diff you should get the power down.

Whether you've got 100bhp or 400bhp its all about throttle control. You can only use a certain amount of horsepower for a given angle of lock, if your spinning the wheels in a straight line then you have issues that need addressing, but otherwise you just have to be careful with your right foot.

of course it's throttle control.

but i would be interested to see lap times on a small tight and twisty track, with a 200bhp car and a 400bhp sc'd car

Big grin

Big grin[/quot...

did anyone see the huge turbo'd 205 at prescott on the psooc day??? was absolutley brillaint when the power was down, but a diesel fiesta was quicker through the corners...think that was running 350ish..agree with spikey...better to get 300 and spend the money and get a good gearbox than waste money over 280 300bhp.. but he will/might have you down a long straight like snetterton or the ring... My mates cossie 4wd 350hp 205 cant loose my 180bhp 205 from his rear bumper in the twisties...

cant wait for pics love wide body 205s.... get some more info up.... please

nice cage Smile look forward to seeing this progress. i think with a good setup 400 bhp may not be too bad but will take alot of driver skill to be quick

It was speced to fit around a 16v engine although I've not trial fitted an engine as of yet. Will get pics of clearance once there is an engine in if you like?

To stand any chance of keeping a fwd car running that sort of power in a straight line you need to be running a wheel with a offset to match what ever front uprights/hubs your running. Assuming your running 205 uprights will mean running anything other than a ET15ish offset wheel will result in uncontrollable torque steer.

That guy is running Ash's 30mm ARB, Solid Mounts & 23mm Torsion Bars & some adjustments on the camber. Admittedly, the guy is an awesome driver, but it just go's to show how well these cars can handle with the right modification's

Interesting that, whats the reasoning behind that?

Using the offset of the wheel to increase track rather than extending the wishbone enough just moves the centre of the wheel out from the steering axis centre line which will give the wheels more leverage for you to fight against every time they try and find traction.
