Anyway apparantly the oil pressure drops after 4k revs when driven hard? is this something simple like sensor or oil pump or is it something much more serious? any help please!!Wink

Sounds like a sensor or possibly the pump. Hopefully nothing more serious. Wink

Ok cheers, is there any way of telling? Once over 4k revs and pressure drops would engine run different? Really don't want to end up with a dog of a car!!

wouldnt last long if no pressure, if the seller wants to sell the car then should be to much of a problem for him to stick another sensor on it.

Depends on how it drops.
If there would b no pressure, the engine would die pretty quick. There also has to be an oil pressure light that comes up at like 0.9 bars?
You could always have a real pressure test.
Sensor, cabling, gauge, pump - but this has been said.

Could be an oil pump or oil pick up fault, sounds like a lack of supply problem though,as the engine picks up revs it need more oil and if it can't get enough the pressure will drop.

I had a vag 1.8T engine do this after the rear cam chain temsioner shed its platic and blocked the oil pick up in the sump.

Could be the bottom pulleys not quite tight enough,as the oil pump drive is only 'clamped' by the pulley and theres no key in it,so if the pulley bolt is not tight enough the oil pump drive cog can slip. Wink
I had the exact same problem on my first 309 Gti,that was due to not enough oil in the sump Love
At higher revs all the oil was around the engine,so none in the sump for the oil pickup to suck up Whistle
