My car has got an idle issue.
It is hunting on idle (revs go up then drop then go up etc) also effects driving with it being a little irratic off powerSad

I'm going to clean the ICV (Stepper)

Also going to clean the Sensors but which ones and where are they? The PIC in the FAQ does not appear to be there.

How do you clean the sensors, I take it you have to un bolt them and them spary with carb cleaner?

Thanks guys.

I had this issue with my rs turbo, needed a new lamba sensor?!

EDIT: It did it again 3 months later and a new coil pack sorted it out!

Thanks for the help and finding that picture!

So do I have to un-bolt the sensors or just clean the connectors?

Odds on it's your ICV - just unplug it, then remove the two (Torx) screws holding it in. The part you can't see normally (as it's inside the manifold) will be gunked up with black stuff - clean all this off.

When you refit it, don't be too alarmed if the idle is all wrong - if theplunger has moved during the cleaning, it will need a bit of time to "reset". You can force the issue by disconnecting the battery -ve terminal for a couple of minutes - when I put my ICV back in, it wanted to idle at over 2,000 rpm until I pulled the -ve lead. After this, it was back to normal at 800 revs.

Hope this sorts it for you!

Resetting the ECU after changing sensors isn't a bad idea at all.

Ended up taking car to mates to have it sorted.

ICV cleaned - sorted the hunting issue.

The Car was also put on a diagnostics machine, and uncovered issue with MAP sensor and O2 sensor. So these were replaced and the Throtle body was cleaned out too. All I can say is it made a huge difference car feels like it has a load more torque now!
