Hi there, I have recently bought a gti-6 which i love but had nothing but problems with. The most recent one happened whilst driving home from work when i selected 3rd gear and a loud rattle noice from it, at first i thougt the de-cat had came loose and was hitting something but this only happened in 3rd gear and no other. The next day when taking it to the garage i put it in 3rd when i heard a loud bang and rattle and now i have no 3rd gear. all the other gears seem to work as normal but when i put it in 3rd there is nothing at all now. The garage dont seem to know either. Before all this happened after driving for around 30mins it was quite hard to put in any gear and had to put the clutch hard to the floor, it apparently had a new clutch before i bought it.
Any ideas? Help would be much apprecated thanks

Ok cool thanks, I was more worried that the gearbox was on its way out or maybe a bush in the gearbox but to be honest i dont really know much with cars. would a garage manage to spy if the plastic bits has broke easily enough? If it was the clutch would it still be possible for me to select the other gears. I thought maybe clutch cable? but again im no mechanic LOL

seeing as all other gears work fine I'd say there's something amiss inside yeah.

I'd say it was the box aswell, jibs old rallye chomped up 3rd gear and had the same symptons, was a right mess when i inspected it, nothing left on the cog.
