That originated many years ago mate. I remember my first Mk 1 GTi ('83) had a pitted 'golf ball' gear knob Yes

The seats aren't great but does it really matter, I really like these, really good solid cars with lovely wheels! The best mk5, better than an r32!

My first car was a mk2 golf driver and it had one of those gear nobs!

You any plans for it Dave apart from transporting saxo bits in? Laugh

Not really, lol. Although i dont really want to deliver them very far at 28mpg Unsure

I think its safe to say that im not the greatest fan of the interior, the gearbox, or the mpg. But i think its a very nice car to tool about it, looks professional & will hopefully be pretty bomb proof ...

Handling is also transformed now the tracking & tyres have been sorted Thumbs up

Have you still got this Dave? I'm looking at one for myself, and apart from the seats, they're a nice solid car. With the K04 turbo fitted instead of the usual K03 on the "normal" GTI's, a stage one map takes them to 300bhp!!

I've heard MPG stays the same at around 33mpg too.

I find my standard gti is way better than the s3, although the s3 was shit, edition 30 has uprated internals etc, basically a detuned s3 engine IIRC, DSG Is awesome as well if you decide on one with DSG!

I would have likes one with the DGS box, but the torque rating on them isn't high enough to exceed the output of a mapped engine. Plenty of people map them though, but I think I would rather replace a clutch once in a while than risk having to replace a dsg box.

I had a good s3 but I did find it a little boring to tell you the true, unless I was drifting around in the snow! However, now my 205's on the road I can get my raw fix from that, so I need somthing a bit more understated/usable.

Im not too sure what the limit is on the box tbh, i know they go to 280ft/lbs of torque but you can map the box so it goes past that!

isn't the mapping of the box to do with the speed it shifts, as I can't imagine that you can increase the stress capabilities of components by plugging in a computer??

I'm not a fan of the mk4 shaped ones, but the mk5 look nice and sound awesome.

Edition 30's are rarer than the R32, although there isn't much to distinguish the two other than the wheels. A mapped E30 is m3 quick though, so should be a little quicker than the R32.

I dont think its stress related there is just a limit, which the revo map works around it,
This is from another forum
Plus Points

Pretty much the feature list of the software: -

No kick down in Manual Mode
No forced change up in Manual mode plus a 7400 rpm redline
Improved torque handling (increased to 500nm)
Increased shift speed
More "sportier" characteristics to the D and S modes (only effecting full throttle)
Increase Launch Control limit to 4000rpm
Rest of the flash counter when the software is applied

Stage 2 software though

That's quite interesting. I will have to look into it in more detail as my current choice of cars is quite limited if I was to discount the ones with DSG boxes
