I've been trying to time up my newly rebuilt XU10J4RS, however I can't get the flywheel and crank pulley holes to match up....despite many many turns of the engine!

This is how it is with the flywheel locked off:

I know the crank pulley's can slip due to the rubber bush - I'm actually waiting for an alloy pulley to turn up - lost in the postal strike I think Sad

But I'm pretty sure it was fine before I rebuilt the engine - I even tried another one as I had spare one lying about, the rubber looked in even better condition than the one in the photo and it was still out by the same - roughly 90 degree's.

I've had the flywheel off and and spun the engine round many times again - but sill the same....

Unsure

If the pistons are all mid-stroke, the crank pulley is fooked.

Not waiting for an alloy one of me are you Unsure

the head is on so I can't tell, wish I'd put the flywheel before I put the head on now!

Couldn't get it on due to clearance on the engine stand...

Nope..chappy off Ebay...it was posted a week ago last Tuesday!

Really wanted to get the engine in my 205 this weekend but doesn't look like it going to happen, don't really want to put the cambelt on with the engine in the car, but might have to now...Sad

Sorry, just realised there's a typo in my first reply.

It should be if all the pistons aren't mid stroke, your crank pulley is fooked. ie, if its all correct, all 4 pistons should be level at midstroke of the bores when the crank is pinned.

If the head is on, use a DTI gauge through the plug hole.
