If I can I'd like to do an FAQ on this but basically I dont know where to start! Getting the car on the drive is the first problem!

Anyone got any tips for replacing a broken throttle cable? Ive yet to look at it in any detail and the replacement has just dropped on my doorstep and the instructions if you could call them that are written in frenglish and basically useless. If I can I'd like to do an FAQ on this but basically I dont know where to start! Getting the car on the drive is the first problem! |

well my mates saxo throttle cable snapped, i know its not the same but it was a bit of an arse to get to!but once we got going it was ok to do, just fiddly! yeah do an FAQ mate be good to see it all in detail lol. ________________________________________ Team Black Rallyexbox live - Xx 7 kenny 7 xX |

Well I managed to sort this earlier. Was actually dead easy and making an FAQ would be a bit like the key fob battery replacement one!Basically just pull the old cable out of the sleeve and remove each end from the pedal and the throttle body. Thread the end of the cable through the white clip that fits onto the pedal then just push it through the hole directly above where the clip fits on the arm coming from the pedal. If this doesn't make sense just use a torch and look where the old one comes out and you cant go wrong. Be prepared for a contortionist act doing it though! Threading it through will be made easier if you straighten the sleeve as much as possible. Once you have the cable through pull it taught leaving the pedal up, i.e throttle closed, then try as best as possible to maintain the tightness and screw the small cylinder bit together. Make sure this is nice and tight because if it pulls through you will likely be looking for a new kit! Only other pieces of advice is firstly don't make the cable too tight as that will cause the throttle to be permanently open, a little slack is no big deal. Lastly mine had worn where the sleeve does its hairpin bend beside the battery, most likely just from rubbing against the sleeve for 11 years and 100K miles! Having said that mine did look slightly kinked so I tried as best as I could to make it more of a gentle curve. If you need to replace your sleeve then good luck, looks fiddly but probably not particularly difficult. Hope this helps dudes. |
