Hi,

I have recently purchased a GTI-6 and descovered a random stalling problem with my car every time i start up or when i come to a junction and the revs drops bellow 1000rpm.

i have read through tons of threads but still cant resolve the problem.

so far i have cleaned all sensors including the idle control valve, ECU reset, bought a new lambda sensor, and still the problem persists.

Any help would be much appreciated thanks.

I know but i bought it a few months back now.

Not much of a mechanic but i will get a friend to check them out thanks.

I forgot to add that i can be driving along and when i dip the clutch it will cut out then when i take it out it will jump back into life? Also the car has an induction kit bolted straight on the inlet so the pipe from the icv is just sitting there not conected to anything. is this normal?

The inlet pipe to the ICV is normally connected to the main air intake pipe. If this is not the case, it should at least have a little mini filter of its own otherwise you risk sucking crap into the ICV/engine which isn't good.

Try replacing the ICV for a genuine OE part, cleaning them will only work for so long. If it's not that then it could be the PAS sensor. It is supposed to increase rev's when steering so that the engine copes under the extra load. However when it is knackered, random stalling can ensue - ie at junctions or going round corners slowly.

what fuel are you using?

i had this not so long ago.

i used a different fuel station to my normal one, i never go to this one but didnt have alot of choice at the time! (and wont be going back!)

and it would try and stall when pulling up or when starting or just when driving. just as you have discribed

i went to a shell station(a new garage near me, woohoo!), a full tank of v-power and no problems since. once it was in the system not once has it tried to stall.

it is 16 mile round trip to the shell garage but as i do little mileage it is worth it. and it goes so much betterBig grin .

it would be worth a try if you have cleaned everything else.

for those in somerset the new shell garage is in Lydford on Fosse, on the A37.
Between Shepton Mallet and Yeovil.
The only one in the area that i know of Dunno

I had exactly the same problem as you, managed to get a hold of a second hand MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor and this sorted it. never had the problem since changing. HTH
