I have a couple of questions regarding oil coolers - if anybody can help please?

1) Does it matter which way round the sandwich plate points? I think I can get more room for oil hose access if it's round at 45 degrees or straight up than I can with it pointing straight down. Does this matter? Unsure

2) the replacement thread I bought (to go into the block, that the sandwich plate bolt then attaches to) doesn't thread in as far as the old one did. How much is "enough"?

Thanks Thumbs up

1. The angle which the hose unions face doesn't matter.

2. I wouldn't be comfortable with less than 0.5D [diameter] of thread contact. I think it's an M18 or M20 thread, so I would look for 9-10mm to be inside the block.

Is it a pure track car? If not I would keep the OEM oil/water heat exchanger, in addition to having the air/oil cooler, as I have done.

wondered the same about the angles too Smile

interesting you say about keeping the heat exchanger, how long does it take the oil to get up to temp without it?

Sounds like youre binning the OEM heat exchanger? As said would be easier, and more beneficial to keep it to be honest.

There is room to fit both quite easily.

(Unless you have some funky setup with your new rad/condensor and are tight on space?)

And if you are tight on space use a renault oil filter, as they're half the size of the 306 one Wink

I've seen both used on CUP and R2 spec 106's and C2's, i.e standard heat exchanger and additional oil cooler, its in the official build books for them too.

that's 200-225+ bhp N/A 1600 TU's Smile

I wasn't sure if there was quite enough space, but from Ben's comment there must be, is it a standard size filter?
