Just spent a while searching through the dozens of threads regarding induction kits and cone filters but couldn't find what I'm after. My track car has got what looks like an ebay special cheapo cone filter fitted directly onto the throttle body with a length of flexi hose directing air from the bottom of the bumper. Is this ok or should I change it for something different.
Thanks

I found mine was quicker with the standard setup (well with K&N panel) rather than having a cone filter directly on the manifold. Weighs more, but you don't get the heat.

I have a filter straight into the inlet but only as I didnt have the standard setup. Never a good setup straight behind the rad. I have not used a enclosure before but any enclosure is better than just the exposed filter

i've got a 57i and it sits in the position of the original airbox, if it's good enough for peugeot, good enough for citroen and good enough for K&N, then i certainly ain't complaining.

Just stay away from puddles if you have an exposed cone low down.

You'll never get a cone filter in a decent position in a gti-6 engine bay without spending a lot of effort with it.

In my little experience it's worth sticking to the standard design or using a enclosed induction kit like how I had mine before it came off using the standard air scoop:
