hi guys, im currently looking at new gearbox alternatives as i do not think my 309 1.9 gti gearbox will be strong enough.
my question is, i have purchased a vts gearbox from the xsara, now would there be any point in fitting a quaife diff to this, or would i be better just fitting the quaife diff to the 1.9 box? im just thinking apart from the diff are the strength of the actual gears any different?

if ive confused you, basically i need to know
are the gears stronger in the vts box (not the diff etc, just the gears)
cheers

ask Miles Thumbs up I think the casing is good, but there are weaknesses inside compared to the older boxes, but may be wrong LOL

ratios are the same as Mi16 and S16.

quaife would be a good idea, if its going on your turbo project you may find using the 1.9 Final drive with the Xsara gearset would work well as they'd be a litle bit longer.

The Xsara box's are weaker internally to the diff due to the cut of the Gear's much like the GTi6 box.
Depending on the age of the box you will find that the later Pinion shaft is different in length and spline length & Dia.

but dont they fit all the xu blocks? i thought they were all pretty much interchangeable with the exception of release forks and arms which arnt exactly hard to change, so surely if the gears were stronger theyd use the old 1.9 boxes?
i know the gear cut are different but did the newer boxes have heat treatment of any kind as this increases the strength of the boxes quite a bit. or is it just the diff thats weaker?

Might be worth having a look into ML boxes instead then - there is some info on here about them. Depends on the torque you are hoping to put through it.
