I appreciate that the length will vary from top of port to bottom, so if both can be measured that would be great, if not the short side will do me fine.
Thanks in advance.

Would it be possible for someone to do me a huge favour, if you have a GTI6 head laying around, would you be able to measure the length of the intake port from valve face/valve seat to opening.I appreciate that the length will vary from top of port to bottom, so if both can be measured that would be great, if not the short side will do me fine. Thanks in advance. |

It's about 75-80mm along the centre of the curve. |

welshpug! wrote: why? An experiment i want to try, lengthening the intake tract, combined with advanced cam timing, see if there is some more torque/mid range power to be had from this motor on a single throttle body set up, if it doesnt work ill go back to standard. My only experiance with engines had been 4 stroke motocross bikes, and messing about with them on the dyno with intake length and other things i got some good torque figures and power, was about 25% increase in torque and 20% more bhp over a wider band and flatter curves, the engines where still willing to rev too. they made peak torque at 9500 as opposed to 10500 stock, peak bhp was 1000 rpm lower at around 10500 and only dropped 1 bhp to the limiter at 13500, torque curve dropped off less than standard after peak too. |

You don't need to increase the inlet port length to get more torque - just advance both cams. 155lbft is easy to get with no power drop.________________________________________ Nothing to see here |

This article relates to exhuast cam timing, but it is the same idea for inlet timing. I'm afraid I dont know the maths behind the cam to inlet port length, but if you tune the length to the new cam timing you should get an improvement.http://www.gmcmotorsport.co.uk/index.php?main_page=page&id=28 ________________________________________ Spanner Monkeys Monkey SpannerForum Search Clicky |

Ive figured at the moment that peak torque is around 5600-5700. The statick/constant number used is 84000, devide that by peak torque rpms, ie, 84000/5600 = 15, this is the rough length of the intake tract in inches, as far as i have measured also. So if i want to try and move peak torque down the RPM range, i pick an RPM range, say 5000 RPM, so 84000/5000 = 16.8 inches ideal tract length, etc etc.Adam B, wheere are you seeing peak torque with cam timing as is? |

Not much scope for increased runner length as the plenum sits pretty close to the rad.________________________________________ R H Davey Welding Supplies. daveyboy wrote: Not much scope for increased runner length as the plenum sits pretty close to the rad. Thats the main problem, im losing the aircon set up, and the rad fans dont work anyway, so i think i can move the rad forward, or lean it forward atleast, but use a slimline fan on the front of it and some custom mounts. In reality, im not going for a massive increase in length, no point in going way too long, i think im going to be looking at around about 2 inches longer on the runners, got to finalise all that yet though. |
