What can be done to the gti to up the power without spending fortunes?

It already has a k&n and full decat exhaust.

Been covered on here hundreds of times mate so you won't get much of a response. Your best bet for more power under a grand is cams (Mild ones lik PT81s because valve to piston clearance is marginal on standard pistons) an induction kit (A proper one with a decent cold air feed) and a good exhaust (Magnex if you don't mind the noise) and maybe a decat if you don't mind a trip under the car to change it for MOTs once a year. But all that will only get you to maybe 185-190 without headwork / remap. For more you will be spending

If you want to make it go faster, it's far cheaper to lower the weight than boost the power! makes it a bit of a nightmare for commuting though!

Its got a magnex on it with a decat..
Its a second (3rd if you include the van) car.
I think i'd take it on a track when i can.
Im used to RWD so its a bit different for me, and its slower then my old car. Just thought it'd make a good track car as ive had one before and was impressed with it.
Dont want to strip it out as ive got a 1 year old, she doesn't go in it, just would like to be able to if i needed to.
Feels like im doind 120 at 80!! The rear Shocks are dead! Took it for a test drive at normal speeds, seemed ok.
Took it out for a blast on some country lanes, lifted at speed and the back end tried to take off!!!

Most will do that mate Yes LOOS!

Get it lowered, suspension refresh and maybe some solid rear beam mounts, before you add more power.
